New release from Smiletron, a four track EP called Daydreams. Check out the post on 8bc to download it for free.
In the opening track Sleepyhead, Smiletron brings an emotive and honest compositions to life through the use of a warm chiptune lead and finely produced backing tracks. It follows with a the Sleepyhead Astro Remix, a expansive, dance version of the opening track. Smiletron does an excellent job of maintaining theme throughout the album, the acoustic piano track Somewhere Else takes us to a new space, but somehow it feels familiar. The closing track is a solo piano arrangement, that sets us down peacefully. Smiletron comes through with tight production and a warm master, Daydreams is the next level for this talented young musician.
The album also comes with a letter from smiletron.
When I think of video game music, my mind usually jump to fast, chippy, upbeat tunes overdubbed with hack and slash sound effects. Some of us this about the online video game remix community OCRemix, a site that hosts the internet’s largest collection of video game remixes done by musicians, composers, DJs and producers around the world.
I was surprised to learn many avid old-school gamers and Video Game Music (VGM) listeners have missed the wonderful music of the Final Fantasy Piano Collections, composed by the one and only Nobuo Uematsu. I had collected the Piano Collection for FFIV, FFV, FFVI, and FFVIII. Flawlessly played and brilliantly recorded, these albums capture the mood of the original 16-bit soundtracks, while elegantly taking the arrangement to new places.
My heart breaks to say I lost all my originals in a move, so now all I have are 128kbps MP3s. That’s back when iPods were only 5GB, but man, I wish I had backed them up. Anyway, attached is the “Tina” track from Final Fantasy 6: Piano Collections, composed and produced by Nobuo Uematsu. Please enjoy.
Found this mp3 in a little stint of listening to boss music today, had to post it cause it’s good and I like good things. I also like things that rock. I really like the changeup around 2:20. I think this is when you fight metal sonic.
