halc – Hydrocity

Back in April I started a netlabel for my two favorite things, Chiptunes and Video Game music, called GameChops. Since then, it’s grown faster than I imagined, and today I am pleased to announce the release of a new, free album from the one and only halc.

halc is a composer, remixer and Overclocked Remix judge. His album, Hydrocity, seemlessly fuses chiptune, electro, dubstep, FM funk and jazz. Halc writes:

“Inspired by such visionary minds as Joshua Morse, P Villa, and Savant, this album has everything from chiptune-influenced electro and dubstep to ambient beats, FM funk and jazz fusion, delightfully blended and compiled into a 40-minute package. The album also features an arrangement of the ever-popular ‘Hydrocity Zone’ music from Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and guest appearances by fellow OC ReMix legends Level 99 and WillRock.

Joshua Morse – Waveform 3

Chiptune funk fusion at its finest, Joshua Morse brings us Waveform 3, an album that defies my ability to put it into words.

A distinct chiptune atmosphere surrounds each neatly arranged and thoughtfully instrumented piece. I particularly love Joshua’s use of delay, taking traditional chiptune sounds and adding a depth and and breadth that wouldn’t have been possible through old hardware alone. A unique album most certainly worth a listen, and definintly worth a download at name-your-own-price.

Jordan Steven – Dragons’ Odyssey OST

Jordan Steven, know throughout the VGM community as bLiNd, has been producing top-notch video game remixes for years. Best known for his trance remixes on Overclocked Remix, he has just released a new project in a new direction. The Lost Angelic Chronicles of Frane: Dragons’ Odyssey is the original soundtrack to an iOS JRPG. Jordan first soundtrack, Dragons’ Odyssey is truly remarkable, with expressive arrangements in 38 moving tracks. This is a far cry from Jordan’s previous EDM-style game remixes, with expansive soundscapes, moods and instrumentation.

The 38-Track album is available now on Bandcamp

Benjamin Briggs – Snake Man vs The World

Described as an “Mega Man music orgy festival,” producer and composer Benjamin Briggs brings us a four track EP of snake-like proportions. Woah, that reads weird.

Ben Briggs, who I remixed about a month back, is an awesome dude with boundless talent. With production chops and musical ingenuity, Ben Briggs weaves a engaging, exciting, and downright fun soundscape in each of his tracks.

He writes: Four Mega Man remixes, as byproducts of DarkeSword’s awesome Wily Castle Remix Gauntlet, a weekly team-based song-combining competition. It includes, in order, all four of my tracks that were submitted as entries in the Gauntlet. My character theme was Snake Man throughout the competition, so each song includes his theme, and a damn good theme it is.

Damn right. The album is available for free via Bandcamp with an option to donate via paypal. Follow Ben Briggs on Twitter, Facebook, and Soundcloud.
