Hi, Cutman here. I produce music for a living, and while there are a near-infinite number of options out there when it comes to mixing, there’s one plug-in that I’ve come to use on every track, FabFilter Pro-Q.
For me, it’s all about two things: Sound Quality and Ease of Use. Amsterdam-based developer Fab Filter has these two elements on lockdown, with both incredible workflow and beautiful sound. Their first EQ, Pro-Q, changed the way I mix. Their new version, Pro-Q 2, introduces new features and a way of working that leaves so many other plug-ins in the dust. Check out the demo below.
One of my favorite things about this company is that they are a truely modern plug-in developer. Their UIs are clean, their presets are relevant (Pro-C 2 even offers a number of EDM-specific presets,) and their support is responsive. I’ve been engineering for almost 10 years now, and Fab Filter has the tools I wish I always had.
I emailed the company over the weekend to congratulate them on their Compressor’s update, and they set me a code that gives anyone 10% off any of their plug-ins or bundles. Click here for the discount. Best of all, they offer a fully featured 30-day trial for every plugin, and don’t require an iLok or any other archaic copy protection. Once you buy it, you own it. Hallelujah!
