Smooth McGroove Releases an Album of Awesome VGM Acapellas

2283838841-1YouTube user Smooth McGroove has been popping up on my facebook feed a lot lately, first with the epic rendition of Spark Mandrill from MegaMan X embedded below.

Smooth McGroove does an impressive job of performing the game music he selects, and his arrangements are as creative as they are entertaining. His cat usually shows up on one of the takes, which is a recipe for internet success. From a technical standpoint, his songs are cleanly produced, properly mixed, and an all around joy to listen to. He’s offered 22 tracks for $9 from Bandcamp, and with a deal like that it’s hard to pass up! Stream the whole album for free below and click the Buy link to purchase a download. If you can’t shell out a few bucks to support this guy, follow Smooth McGroove on Facebook and Twitter, and subscribe on YouTube.

Tutorial: Recreating the Megaman II’s Quick Man Song With Plogue Chipsounds

Plogue Chipsounds is one of the most comprehensive and powerful sound modules for creating classic game console chip sounds. However, if it’s interface might not be the most obvious and intuitive when you first start to use it.

Why would you want to use an Audio Unit/VST instead of the actual hardware or a tracker? Well, for adding some quick chip sounds to an existing song or remixing a classic song, it’s super useful to have everything happening in MIDI. You can speed things up, transpose them and make changes without having to spend time outside of your main DAWS. Whenever I want some Nintendo triangle bass, I go straight to chipsounds!

The Quick man track is one of the most amazing classic NES songs ever. It’s just buzzing with electrical goodness and really makes the intense Quickman level even more amazing. In just a few minutes, you can create a pretty accurate sound in Chipsounds.

The Long Lost Homebrew Sega Game That Will Change Your Life Forever

The mind-blowing game I'm about to reveal can only be truly understood by playing it yourself..
The mind-blowing game I’m about to reveal can only be truly understood by playing it yourself..

There is a Sega Genesis homebrew game so amazing that it’s very existence is half myth. Blank Sega genesis carts imprinted with the game switch hands in clandestine meetings in dark hallways. Those who have played it are never the same. It’s epic music echoes through the ears of all those who have experienced it, rendering all other audio masterpieces flat in comparison. Ladies and gentlemen, today I shall reveal this infamous cathartic game to the general public.

Like a fine piece of abstract art, the plot is only shown through a series of images, leaving each player to come to his own conclusion about what this game means. Tom Scripts, the writer of this game is shrouded in mystery. There is little trace of him anywhere on the Internet except for this finely crafted ROM and his company’s enigmatic logo.

Perhaps the biggest contribution to the gaming world that this game makes, is it’s music. Truly innovative and forward-thinking, even attempting a remix has driven the most revered members of OC Remix close to quitting. There are some songs that simply cannot be improved on, cannot be remixed, and this game contains ALL of them.

So without further ado, if you are ready to experience the most atmospheric, truly amazing video game in the history of mankind, click here.
