A huge Chiptune show was held at this year’s MAGFest. The show featured some of the hottest chiptune performers, including Danimal Cannon, Trey Frey, and Jake “Virt” Kaufman. Chiptune netlabel Chiptunes = WIN teamed up with the crew from Philadelphia’s Chiptune event 8Static to host a Chiptune concert on MAGFest’s main stage. MAGFest is The Music and Gaming Festival, a non-profit company that hosts video game music events across the United States.

Monday Mixes – 2014 Chiptune Recap Mixes

2014 was a great year for Chiptune music. Here’s two epic mixes spanning almost four hours of new chiptune music. First is by Gameboy legend Henry Homesweet with his Essential Chip Mix 2014.

This is my remix of Starbomb’s super smash hit “Minecraft Is For Everyone” from the album Player Select!

I spent over a billion hours hand-sculpting over 41,000 samples per second to give your ears the warm tender loving they so desperately need! Starbomb is the internet supergroup comprised of animator Arin Hanson (also known as “Egoraptor”), Danny Avidan and Brian Wecht of American comedy duo Ninja Sex Party. Wow, Wikipedia sure has some great bios these days.

Arin and Danny are also known for their “work” on the YouTube channel, Game Grumps! You know, it’s the one where the guys do the thing with the games and everybody laughs. Seriously, they’re a blast to watch, check out their channel – http://youtube.com/gamegrumps

Rhythmus Records – A Boston-based Chiptune / Lo-fi Electronica Label

Rhythmus Records, a new Boston­-based record label focusing on lo­fi, chiptune and chip music. The flagship album includes music from international chiptune acts, Fade Runner (Canada), Sugarpunch! (from Holland) and Coco Lowres (Germany). 12 artists are planned to release exclusive EPs starting in winter 2015.

Artists from within the US involve two scenes; Boston 8­-Bit, and the greater American chip scenes including artists, RobotSexMusic and NickelPUNK. Mastering and graphic design came courtesy of Jeremy Highhouse at ViuLab in Portland, Oregon. Look out for up and coming young stars such as New England’s The Unicorn Princess. Kick off parties in Salem, Mass and in Portland, Oregon in Dec and January 2015.
