Grimecraft – POKÉP

POKEPPOKÉP is Pokemon concept album. Happy Hunting!

Grimecraft teams up with GameChops to deliver the most bass-tastic Pokémon remix collection that ever was. Originally planned as a solo EP by Grimecraft, once the other video game remixers got wind of POKEP, the album turned into a full-blown VGM mixtape. Featured artists include Dj CUTMAN, James Landino, ABSRDST and Kevin Villecco in collabs, remixes, and original productions Pokemon music.

This mixtape is largely inspired by Grimecraft’s copy of POKEMON X and Y, but some tracks pay tribute to the animated Pokémon theme song and the original games for Nintendo Gameboy, Pokemon Red and Blue. Download POKÉP from Bandcamp

Joshua Morse – VLAD (Castlevania)

vlad-albumcoverVLAD is a 4-track EP, blending the sounds of EDM, Chiptunes, Jazz, and vampires to pay tribute to the Castlevania series. Castlevania was originally released on the Nintendo Entertainment System in the late 80’s. The energetic themes contained in the original games have been referenced throughout the series for over 25 years. VLAD is an artistic reimagination that Castlevania fans will immediately recognize.

The classic story of Dracula can be traced back to the historical figure known as Vlad III, or Vlad The Impaler, a 15th century Romanian prince known for his excessive cruelty. Vlad III became the inspiration for the classic novel Dracula, and in 1986 the character reemerged as the antagonist for Konami’s celebrated video game series, Castlevania.

Jazz musician and electronic producer Joshua Morse has created a dark and danceable atmosphere with driving baselines and compelling arrangements. The album features memorable themes such as “Bloody Tears” and “Vampire Killer.” These themes are embraced by both remix artists and cover bands, but Mr. Morse has made them all his own. World 1-2: Encore

World 1-2: EncoreWorld 1-2: Encore” is the followup to “World 1-2” that featured top-class videogame composers & arrangers, including Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill), Manami Matsumae (Mega Man), Keiji Yamagishi (Ninja Gaiden), Austin Wintory (Journey) and many more. “Encore” is one more ride with 14 remixes of some of our favorite games — from Mega Man and Zelda to Sonic and Super Hexagon and plenty others. It’s a celebration of the art & craft of video games.

Unlike the previous album “World 1-2“, this one is all remixes — so it’s easier to digest and enjoy. It retains the same nature of World 1-2: a multitude of genres and styles, mixed together in a playful way.

World 1-2 is a music project directed and produced by Mohammed Taher of Koopa Soundworks. All proceeds generated from this album will go toward funding new projects by Koopa Soundworks. We hope you enjoy this project as much as we enjoyed making it.
-Mohammed Taher

I had the honor and pleasure of producing the original World 1-2 alongside Mohammed for GameChops. Mohammed has relentless attention to detail and a skill for recruiting the very best of the game industry and vgm community. I have high hopes for Koopa Soundworks!

David Wise is back! Let’s Look Back at Games He Worked On

davidwiseSaxophonIn some really exciting news regarding E3, Nintendo announced that fan favorite composer David Wise has returned to his roots and is now composing the music for the also announced Donkey Kong Country Returns Tropical Freeze. For those who are not following me at the moment, David Wise is the chap that created the music for the Donkey Kong Country trilogy of games back in the Super Nintendo era. He joined Rareware back in 1985, with him being the only composer until the arrival of Robin Beanland, Graeme Norgate, and of course, Grant Kirkhope. All those memorable tunes in the Donkey Kong Country games were created by this fellow; Jungle Hijinx, Aquatic Ambience, Stickerbrush Symphony and, my personal favorite, Forest Frenzy.

Donkey Kong Country – Forest Frenzy | David Wise

That being said, the last Donkey Kong Country game he composed was released in 1996 and, other than the ports of the DKC series to the Game Boy Advance, he hasn’t been doing much more Donkey Kong work. So, what has David Wise been up to in the period between the DKC trilogy and his upcoming soundtrack for Tropical Freeze? People say he doesn’t really get enough work but, actually, he has had plenty of work; it just hasn’t reached the popularity levels that Donkey Kong did. This piece of writing, however, is going to shed some light onto what he has been working on before his glorious return to the Donkey Kong franchise.
