Asis Galvin – Game Over (The Mixtape)

Check out Asis Galvin’s video game beat tape Game Over on Bandcamp. Featuring nineteen instrumentals and a bonus rap song, Game Over features chopped and screwed tunes from games like Super Mario RPG, Mario Kart, and Pokemon.

One of my favorite tracks on the album is a remix of Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game, originally written by Chiptune rock band Anamanaguchi.

The album is tightly produced, dynmatic hiphop fashion, perfect for freestyling over or just some easy listening. At only $5, what’s not to like?

Asis Galvin has also produced a Final Fantasy Remixed album and an Okami Mini-Mixtape. If you’re a fan of any of these games or simply laid back hiphop beats, head over to Bandcamp to support this man!

Sometimes I forgot what got me into this [ Pictionary OST ]

Sometimes I forget what got me into Chiptunes in the first place. Games like this. I owned Pictionary for NES, It comprised of a selection of mini games, much like the WarioWare series. I used to play with my little sister (and sometimes my parents). Games were simple, like catching mindless sprites falling out of a flaming building. Or jumping around from platform to platform, dodging a beachball on the moon. You know, stuff the whole family can enjoy. It also had chippin’ sweet music by Tim Follin.

EDIT: I couldn’t resist, I had to make a beat from one of the selections.

I’ve Discovered Dub-Hop!!

As some of you may know, I’m a hiphop engineer by day. I know this is a chiptune / video game blog, but i gotta shout out this new kind of hip-hop thats evolving in the wake of the dubstep explosion. Artists are calling it “Dub-Hop” and I agree. this music is tough sounding, upbeat, and most importantly, new. I can’t wait for five years from now when we’re sick of music that sounds like this. right now tho, it’s fire.

Black Materia: Final Fantasy VII

I woke up this morning to the shock an awe of Black Materia, an original hiphop album by Random AKA MegaRan, exactly 14 years since the Japanese release of the Final Fantasy VII, the game that shattered perceptions and set the bar for storytelling and detail in RPG Games.

Listening to the songs on BandCamp, I’m still in awe. Great production, appropriate use of samples and dope vocal tone, this is an all-pro album featuring additional vocals by Brentalfloss, MC Pennywise, Devastate, Ilyas (of Tanya Morgan), Maja, Phil Harmonic, Dale Chase, and more.

With lyrics that reflect the story and taking the point of view of different characters, this record is a nerdcore achievement. Other tracks, like “Crys of the Planet” boast poignet lyrics that extend beyond the scope of the game to a transmit a socially conscience message Listen on Bandcamp or Download the Free Version from NerdcoreNow.com
