ABSRDST – Boss Beats, a Mega Man EDM concept album

ABSRDST - Boss Beats album coverIt’s finally here, nearly a year of work culminates in the last GameChops release for the year. It’s from ABSRDST, who was a featured artist on Grimecraft’s POKÉP a few weeks back. BOSS BEATS is a full-length tribute to the Mega Man series by Capcom, a fitting end to the blue bomber’s 25th anniversary year.

ABSRDST (pronounced Absurd-est) reimagines the Mega Man soundtrack in a dazzling display of modern music production. From classic house, to retro chiptune, to futuristic bass music, ABSRDST shows his versatility as a producer while paying tribute to some of the most memorable music from Capcom’s classic series.

The tracklist includes compositions from Mega Man 2, 9, 10 and X6, originally composed by Takashi Tateishi, Manami Matsumae, Naoto Tanaka and Yu Shimoda. ABSRDST worked closely with Manami Matsumae herself on the remix of her composition. As with all GameChops albums, the songs contained within are covers and all necessary licenses have been obtained.

BOSS BEATS is now available for pre-order for $7:

About GameChops:

GameChops is a record label founded by performer and producer Dj CUTMAN. It is the first label in the world to focus on producing and licensing Electronic Dance Music (EDM) cover songs from video games. GameChops has been awarded the #1 spot on Bandcamp three times this year.

Mega Flare – Maverick ( Chiptune Remixes of Mega Man X )

Mega Flare - Maverick

Mega Flare is a DJ, producer and chiptune musician, and Maverick is his first release with GameChops. It’s an EP of chipmusic inspired by the soundtrack of the Mega Man X series for SNES. This album was written on the music tracker software LSDj ( littlesounddj.com ) and recorded on a single Nintendo Gameboy, model DMG-01. Maverick is considered a “de-make” of the 16-bit soundtrack for Mega Man X; Each track was re-written on the 4-bit soundchip of the Nintendo Gameboy.

The results are crystal clear, expressive chiptunes that would have been worthy of any hand-held adventure. Download Mega Flare – Maverick from Bandcamp.

Mega Flare writes:
Maverick is a chaser ride back to my childhood when I would play Mega Man X with my big bro. Tracking these songs brought back some of the feelings of wonder and dread from the MMX series. It was a challenge working complex 16-bit melodies into one LSDj cart but I some how pulled it off. My hope was to pay homage to the composers who inspired me.
