Lost MegaMan Boss: BOND-MAN (really?)

Hardcore Mega Man fans know that the first Mega Man game, released in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System has only six bosses (aka ROBOT MASTERS.) Each game following had eight, displayed in the famous 3×3 grid that inspired my DjCUTMAN website. Rumor speculates that the first game did intend to have eight bosses, but two were cut because it was the 80’s when people did crazy things for no reason (not much has changed, huh.) Well the nerdtacular nerdstorians over at The Mega Man Network have uncovered this guy, BOND MAN, a robot with the powers of glue. Sure, not as threatening as slitheringly useless Snake Man, or the logistically impossible Wood Man, but I could imagine how a robot with the powers of adhesion could somehow cause a threat to our relentless robot hero. not really.

The materminds over at themmnetwork.com are also responsible for uncovering epic Mega Man phenomena such as The Capcom Hand and The Mysterious Wily Pipe. To think, without these noble crusaders of retro game information I might actually be productive right now.

Chip_Con #1: REBOOT (Brooklyn, NY 8/7/10)

On August 7th 2010 Chip-Con International had their first event, REBOOT, a concert at Little Field, NYC featuring five rock-awesome chiptune artist and one killer VG.

The show featured DEADBEATBLAST, Smiletron, Chromix, I, Cactus, and IAYD, with live visuals by Invader Bacca.

We attended the show, and it was very cool. It was a great experience to meet some of my Chiptune Heros (please Harmonix, don’t make this into a game) and see them throw down live.

I’m consistently blown away by the raw power and crunch behind the DMG Gameboy. Other artists used tools like laptop computers, effects pads, and PSPs.

REBOOT was the first in a series of international chiptune concerts. To get an idea of what when down, check out this video courtesy of DEADBEATBLAST.

Duke Nukem Again?

Art by Olly Moss

Like many of us, I have fond memories of handing strippers a folded piece of cash and hearing, “Shake it baby!”

Also, like many of us, I played Duke Nukem. When I heard that Duke Nukem Forever was being canceled I wasn’t disappointed. It was the outcome I had expected. I’m sure most people would have been more surprised if it had come out. Well prepare to have your hopes dashed one more time because a new rumor is making the rounds that the guys behind 2009’s FP-RPS (First Person Role-Playing Shooter) Borderlands, Gearbox Studios, are picking up where 3D Realms left off. This isn’t the craziest rumor I’ve heard though.

Take-Two still has the rights to the Duke Nukem franchise and Gearbox was supposed to be making a spin-off Duke Begins earlier in the year. Gearbox’s president Randy Pitchford neither confirmed nor denied this, but implied that he will be able to clarify at PAX Prime 2010 in a couple weeks.
