Philadelphia’s 8Static has been providing monthly installments of chiptune and lo-fi music shows for almost seven years, and this week the collective is throwing their 3rd annual festival, set to take over Philadelphia for three days of high-volume, low-tech, electronic music.
Imagos Software only has a few days left to raise $10,000 on their kickstarter for an amazing game that combines SCUMM elements with SHMUP fun! As chiptune fans, not only do we have a possibility of getting an awesome game for PC, Mac and Linux (possibly the consoles should they hit their stretch goal), but the possibility of getting almost 4 albums filled with chiptune regulars like Alex Mauer, Bright Primate, Cheap Dinosaurs and more should they reach their stretch goal. It’s definitely worth putting some money towards. The T-Shirt is really slick looking too.
Show you support for retro gaming goodness today and get in on this awesomeness.
This weekend was Philadelphia’s second annual 8Static Festival featuring some of the best chiptune musicians on the continent. Acts include Gameboy heavyweights Danimal Cannon and Trey Frey, and chiptune pioneers Trash80 and Cheap Dinosaurs. A personal highlight of mine was Radlib, who closed out day one.

Cheap Dinosaurs, the Philadelphia chiptune supergroup, have launched their first album in three years on Sunday via 8static. Triangle Trash is six incredible tracks by the band, incorporating programmed chiptunes alongside live guitar, drums, and synthesizers.
