CD Spotlight: Final Fantasy VI Grand Finale

Following my post about the Final Fantasy VI Piano Collections, I had to post this one particular Final Fantasy album, Final Fantasy VI Grand Finale. Like the Piano Collections, this album draws from the 16-bit source music from Final Fantasy VI, original for Super Nintendo (SNES), and brings it to life in a new arrangement, exceptionally recorded and mixed.

Final Fantasy VI Grand Finale is truly a work of art, featuring beautiful orchestral strings, harpsichord, piano, flute, and even operatic vocals in the closing track. Composed and arranged by Nobuo Uematsu himself, Final Fantasy VI Grand Finale is a captivating and moving collection musich.

Attached is the beyond-classic Final Fantasy VI Opening Theme, set appropriately as the opening track of the album.

The Protomen – Act 1

While cruising the tubes today I ran across this Protomen quote splattered on a facebook wall.

He was a loner, a thinker, a man of ideas.
Ideas forbidden in Wily’s society.
The society in which he lived.
The society for which he worked.
The society he would set free.

Intrigued by the narritive and MegaMan reference, I googled it and it lead to me their website, with their stunningly artwork and killer songs. Further digging lead me to this page, now buried, it was my first glimpse into The Protomen a year ago. A music video to their song “Hope Rides Alone” , this video is an animated work of art taking hand-drawn characters, composite photos, and found-footage to create an erie atmosphere of a war-torn future in the year 200X. It’s worth a watch for sure, and check out more of The Protomen at their website.

A Gritty, Live Action Pokemon Movie ?!

I was browsing the puketastic new layout of SickDamage.com when I ran across this video. Leaked to ShogunGamer.com, this appears to be a screener of a trailer for an upcoming Pokemon movie. Colorful CG creatures aside, the film looks well shot and a darker tone is set by this video. This might just be the thing that gets me back into the franchise. If you’re not familiar with Pokemon, this post probably won’t help, but seriously who’s not familiar with the series that created Mankind’s Cutest Creation? Just watch the video.
