Sup y’all? Prez Hoodie here with another fantastic Chiptunes = WIN compilation announcement! Of course I’m talking about our latest April Fool’s release….
Chiptunes = #SrsBsns
‘Chiptunes = #SrsBsns’ (Serious Business) features 22 brand new meme-centric tracks (yes, they’re all written about/referencing memes :3 ) from a VERY talented array of chipartists spanning the globe. The premise is ridiculous, but the execution is damn near flawless (these cats ran with the crazy concept so very hard!). Per the usual, artwork by Foxdragon, track order by Kubbi, and mastering by videogamedj.com’s own Dj CUTMAN.
Why? Because Chiptunes = Serious Business, duh. 8-)
As always, stream/download/donate/share the goodness via the Bandcamp embed below!

The Legend of Zelda. Any gamer worth their weight in rupees is a fan of at least one of the games from this long lived series of awesome (and if not, may an octorok launch a spiky ball up your arse!! :3 ) One among many, many reasons that this is true has to do with the excellent music that accompanies every Zelda game. And while there has been plenty of Zelda love among the VGM community over the years, there hasn’t really been any albums that were solely devoted to it.
This dude that I’d never even heard of before Jmr’sOpen Circuit listening party on Areciboradio last weekend just up and released this INDESCRIBABLY amazing 23 track Legend of Zelda tribute album. Turns out it’s actually been around a year in the making and you can damn well tell by the quality of it! Stylistically it’s a mix of prog rock, post-rock, blues, western country, jazz piano AND ZORA KNOWS WTF ELSE!!! Regardless, the end result is this stirring EPIC – in the TRUEST sense of the word – of Zelda love and musicality far beyond the norm. IT’S ABSO-F**KIN-LUTELY BEAUTIFUL. I mean, seriously, that sums it up, because how often do you hear someone describe a VGM album with the term “BEAUTIFUL“?? Also, the guy needs to get a band happening so I can see his ass play at MAGFest; would be a killer show. SO GET ON THAT, VGM MUSICIANS!!!! ;D ANYWHO, enough words already! HEY LISTEN!! to it already and then promptly go bug the deku nuts out of Cory on Twitter about how awesome it is so he’ll keep making more fantastic VGMusic. DEFINITELY will be your good deed of the day/week/month/year/EVAR. ;)
Champions of Chip. There’s more than a good handful of us out there, promoting Chipmusic with every fiber of our being. Because we love it. Because it’s fun. Because it gets us free beer at shows. (WUT?? That’s just as legit a reason!!! ;3 ). This Friday Freakout is dedicated to one of the most, well… dedicated of us that I’m aware of:
This crazy, awesome woman attacks Chipshows armed with nothing but her iPhone, working her way to the front of the stage, throwing elbows, dragon punches, flaming ninja stars, WUTTEHFUKEVAR IT TAKES to get in place to document the entire show in video. And then afterward she uploads them by sets/gigs/artists to her Youtube account for all of the chipworld to see in 720p (that rhymed! heheh ;3 ). She’s more or less providing awesome live video coverage of a substantial portion of the East coast chip scene, which is something that nobody else is doing (one of her very reasons for doing it actually).
Did I mention yet that THE WOMAN IS AWESOME!?!?!
Also, her latest spin on the project is what she’s calling an “Evolution” series. Basically, she’s taking a handful of Chipartists and chronicling their journies (via her live footage) from where she first encountered them to their gigs at Blipfest 2012 this Memorial Day weekend. Currently she has that happening for Chipocrite, Kris Keyser, and Danimal Cannon, but I believe she has plans to do that for a few more before Blipfest rolls around. In other words, STAY TUNED, FOTHERMUCKERS!! ;D Seriously, if you’re a chipfan and haven’t checked out her project by now, this is a great time to do it! =D
And this is the part where I’m just gonna flat out say THANKS A MEGACRAPTON, EM!! There’s more than a few of us out there who LOVE chipmusic but don’t have access to many live shows (due to location, being broke, a combination of the two, etc). And you do a damn good job of bringing some of that to us. SO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, YA CRAZY BROAD!! ;D We <3 you very much for it!
