Ben Briggs – Aquarium Park

I’m pleased to announce two new tracks from GameChops artist Benjamin Briggs. The Diddy Kong Racing champ turns his focus to Sonic the Hedgehog, creating unique remixes that blend multiple sonic tunes together. Both draw inspiration from Aquarium Park from Sonic Colors.

The first track, Trash FM, combines Aquarium Park from Sonic Colors with Hydrocity from Sonic The Hedgehog 3. The result is an electro-house banger unlike Sonic fans have ever heard! The second takes the same Aquarium Park theme and puts a dub spin on it, combining it with Rusty Ruin from Sonic 3D Blast.

These two tracks are part of an ongoing initiative by the team at GameChops to provide legally licensed video game remixes. San Francisco based company Joypad Records has been instrumental in obtaining compulsory licenses from Sega, as well as license from Nintendo for last month’s Triforce of Bass.

halc – Hydrocity

Back in April I started a netlabel for my two favorite things, Chiptunes and Video Game music, called GameChops. Since then, it’s grown faster than I imagined, and today I am pleased to announce the release of a new, free album from the one and only halc.

halc is a composer, remixer and Overclocked Remix judge. His album, Hydrocity, seemlessly fuses chiptune, electro, dubstep, FM funk and jazz. Halc writes:

“Inspired by such visionary minds as Joshua Morse, P Villa, and Savant, this album has everything from chiptune-influenced electro and dubstep to ambient beats, FM funk and jazz fusion, delightfully blended and compiled into a 40-minute package. The album also features an arrangement of the ever-popular ‘Hydrocity Zone’ music from Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and guest appearances by fellow OC ReMix legends Level 99 and WillRock.

GameChops: A GameMusic / Chiptune Netlabel

April 3rd, 2012 marks a momentous day for me. It’s the launch of my not-for-profit internet record label GameChops. Over the last few years of DJing VGM and making beats I’ve met a lot of great people and learned a tremendous amount about production, performance, and making music a greater part of my life. With GameChops, I hope to give back to this vibrant, supportive scene.

I love hearing bits of original game music in new productions. Chiptune samples are my favorites, I don’t care if it’s a funk tune or a rap track, you throw a Nintendo or a raw sawtooth wave in there and I am hooked. It was this irrational love of game sounds that got me started as Dj CUTMAN; I was working as a hiphop engineer and I made my first video game beats while hanging out in the studio after recording sessions.

The debut release for GameChops is none other than Benjamin Briggs, veteran OCRemixer and budding digital DJ. The release is an EP inspired by Diddy Kong Racing aptly titled Bootleg Circuit. Thsip reductions cleverly utilize in-game samples to create a five track electro-house marathon worthy of any street race or game party. Grab the release on GameChops.

Head over to GameChops.com to check out all the releases. Please support this project by adding GameChops on Facebook. Here’s to much more music.
